The Office of Internal Enforcement (OIE) administers the U.S. Department of Labor's (DOL) internal Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) program by counseling, facilitating mediation, investigating, and adjudicating complaints filed by DOL employees and applicants for DOL employment who allege discrimination because of race, color, religion (including failure to accommodate), sex (including pregnancy and gender identity), national origin, age, disability (including failure to accommodate), genetic information, sexual orientation, and parental status, as well as retaliation for prior protected EEO activity. OIE also provides training and technical assistance on EEO matters to DOL managers, supervisors, and employees. Additionally, OIE advises Departmental management on issues affecting EEO and develops and implements relevant Departmental policies and procedures.

How to File a Complaint with Internal Enforcement

In order to file a complaint, an aggrieved individual (a DOL employee or DOL job applicant) must contact an EEO Counselor within 45 calendar days of an alleged discriminatory action or, in the case of a personnel action, within 45 calendar days of the effective date of the action. An EEO Counselor will conduct an initial interview with the aggrieved individual, and begin fact-finding in an attempt to resolve the matter informally within 30 calendar days from the date of the initial contact.
